Today’s scientific trends are racing towards smaller scales and experimentation that provides both structural and mechanistic insights. To decipher biomolecular mechanisms you need methods capable of detecting the interactions between biomolecules as they happen at the single-molecule level. Whereas single-molecule techniques used to be the realm of physicists, at LUMICKS we believe that the most impactful questions are being asked in biology. Our instruments have been developed by taking this into account and enables all life scientists to use this technology to answer their scientific questions.
The C-Trap Optical Tweezers-Fluorescence Microscope is the world’s first instrument that allows simultaneous manipulation and visualisation of molecular interactions in real-time. It combines high-resolution optical tweezers, confocal microscopy or STED nanoscopy with an advanced microfluidics system into a truly integrated and correlated solution.

Andrea is a co-founder of LUMICKS, with Olivier Heyning, Prof. Gijs Wuite and Prof. Erwin Peterman.
He completed a Ph.D in Biophysics at the VU University Amsterdam. His research consisted of designing novel assays and research tools for studying DNA repair at the single-molecule level. Andrea also hold a Masters degree in Applied Physics from the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) .
