Abstract

With space as the final frontier, the race is on to launch satellites, explore the moon and further beyond looking for untapped resources, places to colonise and answer age-old questions. This webinar will specifically address how 3D printing is playing a key role in developing the rocket engines that will help mankind achieve these goals.

This presentation will review LPBF technology and 3D printing systems and options suitable for producing rocket engines and other components for space travel and exploration. There will be a specific focus on traceability and quality assurance.

It will also include success stories, including Aconity3D’s involvement with producing a high-performance, advanced aerospike rocket engine. The rocket is a new monolithic, highly complex engine designed entirely by AI, where 3D printing was the only solution to make the design a functioning reality.

Yves Hagedorn from Aconity3D

Yves has served as the Managing Director of Aconity3D since 2015 having a strong focus on extending the current state-of-the-art in laser-based metal additive manufacturing. He gained a deep understanding of high-temperature LPBF technology while completing his Ph.D. at the Fraunhofer Institute for laser technology in 2014. His background in mechanical engineering and business administration and automation also give him the valuable tools to help advise on how clients can best implement LPBF into their workflows.
