Mapping Whole-Brain Function in Real Time with Iconeus One Functional Ultrasound Imaging

Webinar – Monday 24 August 3pm AEST (GMT+10)

Abstract

Discover how the Iconeus One, the premier functional ultrasound (fUS) imaging system for neuroscientists, is transforming preclinical brain function studies in rodent models. Based on ultrafast plane-wave sonography, Iconeus One delivers exceptional spatial (100 × 100 × 400 μm) and temporal (10 ms) resolution, enabling precise, real-time mapping of hemodynamic changes throughout the depth of the brain, even in awake, behaving animals.

This webinar introduces the principles of functional ultrasound imaging (fUSi) and the Iconeus One platform, with a dedicated focus on mouse and rat applications. We will overview the technique’s applications, ranging from task-induced activation mapping and resting-state connectivity to in vivo angiography and Ultrasound Localisation Microscopy (ULM). We will pay particular attention to neuropharmacology and drug development, where fUSi’s sensitivity to drug-induced functional changes offers a powerful readout for preclinical research.

A central theme will be how fUSi compares with, and complements, functional MRI (fMRI), examining their respective strengths and how the two modalities can be combined. To help you plan your own studies, we will also walk through a typical fUS experimental workflow, from study design and acquisition to the image analysis pipeline, giving a practical, end-to-end view of what a rodent fUS experiment involves.
