Samples are placed in a sealed cryogenic grinding vial in the Freezer/Mill®, then immersed in liquid nitrogen (LN). The samples are cooled to cryogenic temperatures then pulverised by magnetically shuttling a steel impactor back and forth against two stationary end plugs.

Each Freezer/Mill® cryogenic grinder has an insulated nitrogen tub equipped with an LN sensor. A touch screen control panel controls the grinding cycles, grinding time, impact rate as well as pre-cooling and cooling times.

Since the vial is closed, the cryogenic grinder maintains integrity of its contents, hazardous or critical samples are easily controlled, cleanup is simplified and cross-sample contamination is eliminated.

  • CG-200 Freezer/Mill® – Cryogenic Grinder

    The Cole-Parmer CG-200 cryogenic grinder (formerly SPEX SamplePres FM-6775) features:

    • Small cryogenic mill that grinds up to 0.1 – 5 grams of sample
    • Insulated liquid nitrogen tub is equipped with LN level sensor
    • Lid safety interlock for operator protection
